Interestingly, Portuguese outlet A Bola carry comments from Nuno Gomes who is vice-president in Noronha Lopes’ candidacy to be president of Benfica, claiming that Amorim will be manager of the club one day.

He referenced a dinner he had back in September with Amorim and Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana but claimed it was just to get an insight into how the two Manchester clubs function.

Gomes confidently predicted later in the interview that “I am convinced that Ruben Amorim will one day be Benfica ‘s coach . It didn’t happen sooner because, after some meetings, Amorim decided not to accept those conditions, at the time when he was at Casa Pia . I was the one who suggested his name at that moment.”

Commenting on Amorim’s character he concluded, “Ruben Amorim is a person with very strong convictions. We know how he communicates, works, and prepares his teams. When he was at Sporting , we all realized that Amorim is stubborn. At the end of last season, he was in a different situation than he is now at United.
